We need to take information, wherever it is stored, make our copies and share them with the world. We need to take stuff that’s out of copyright and add it to the archive. We need to buy secret databases and put them on the Web. We need to download scientific journals and upload them to file sharing networks. We need to fight for Guerilla Open Access.

With enough of us, around the world, we’ll not just send a strong message opposing the privatization of knowledge — we’ll make it a thing of the past.

L’anno scorso avevo pubblicato altrove queste righe di Aaron Swartz, nei giorni della sua scomparsa, per ricordarlo. Adesso che c’è questo blog, mi sembra proprio il posto giusto dove ripubblicarle.
E se non avete idea di chi sia Aaron Swartz, beh… male. Ci sono tanti imbecilli che ignorare sarebbe un bene, e non conoscere anche meglio, questo tizio invece dovreste saperlo, chi è.

Però la rete lo sa benissimo, quindi potete chiedere e come sempre troverete: il suo sito ufficiale, un sito in sua memoria gestito dai suoi familiari, una raccolta in italiano di scritti suoi e in sua memoria …  c’è anche un bellissimo documentario su di lui, intitolato The Internet’s own boy – rilasciato in CreativeCommons e con sottotitoli in molte lingue, tra cui l’italiano.

Come lui avrebbe voluto, andate, cercate, scaricate, copiate e distribuite, parlate con gli altri, raccontate e dite la vostra in giro. Senza paura, anche se a volte sembra proprio impossibile.
